Funiculars
The German-made funiculars are part of the Valparaiso's trademark. Once there were over 30 of them operating, the first one installed in the late 1800's. Go up and down the hills and feel past time's spirit.
La Sebastiana
The foundation created in the name of 1971 Nobel Prize author Pablo Neruda, born in 1904 and declared national poet after his death in 1973, restored and kept this Chilean celebrity's belongings collected from various trips to Europe in his Valparaiso house, called La Sebastiana. From an architecterual perspective very interesting house, much of his work was written gazing out over the bay. The Neruda Foundation has installed a gift shop, a small café, and a exposition area together with the small garden in front of the house.
The Valparaiso Port
The 500 year old port with its impressive contrasts with the surrounding hills is best enjoyed taking a boatride from the port where fishermen's boats, carriers, military ships, and Atlantic cruisers lie side by side. Afterwards we recommend having seafood at the restaurant on the pier.
Plaza Sotomayor and Barrio Puerto
Plaza Sotomayor, Valparaiso's main square with its colorful military building on one side and the Chilean Heroes Monument on the other, is a natural meeting point for tourists and locals with good transportation alternatives to wherever you want to go. Cerro Bellavista Circuit
