Situated at the tip of China's Liaodong Peninsula, it is a trading and financial center in northeastern Asia and has gained the name the “Hong Kong of Northern China.”

Luxe Top Ten Must See Attractions

Donghai (East Sea) Park

A scenic seaside park founded in 1999 to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Dalian. It is situated on Binhai (Beach) Road, near downtown and Bangchui Island Scenery Spot. The park is dotted with numerous sculptures, including a huge and conspicuous sculpture deemed as the symbol of the park. A trail called "Eighteen Windings" twists and turns, providing a physical challenge for visitors. Another interesting must-see is the "Weird Slope."

Feel Like Flying Zip Cord Jump

Strap on the zip cord and experience a scenic tour of Dalian like no other. The Bungee-jumping Recreational Company built a 510 meter long cableway from the top of a sightseeing elevator at Xinghai Park down to Silvery Beach. With a drop of 50 meters, the jump (or flight) takes about one exhilarating minute. All of the facilities and technology are imported from Canada and the company has an excellent safety record. During the flight, the beautiful seascape and scenery of Dalian come into full view. One jump costs CNY80 ($12 USD). It is a favorite activity in Dalian.

Jinshi Yuan Park

This park is a forest of rocks. Legend has it that about 10 years ago, during the construction of a hotel, gold colored rocks of striking shapes were unearthed. After years of careful excavation, the planned hotel was replaced by Jinshi Yuan Park, a forest of 20 meter high rocks. The uniquely shaped rocks are often described as imaginative sculptures of nature. Also nicknamed as a "Natural Geological Museum" and a "Concrete Animal World," the park's rocks were formed by erosion 600 million years ago, the same age during which the dinosaurs once lived.

Labor Park

Located in the shadow of Lushan Mountain, this park has close ties with China's history. After liberation took place more than 100 years ago, the local citizenry restored the park's beauty and erected a monument with the words “Work Creates World” carved into it. Since then, it has been recognized as a Labor Park. A massive lawn lined with more 300,000 flowers is the park's centerpiece. It also offers amusement rides, a game farm of peacocks, deer, and cranes, a lotus pond and the famous red and white soccer ball sculpture that acknowledges Dalian as China's "football town."

Tiger Beach Park

Tiger Beach is one massive vortex of fun. Built in 1990, this amusement area caters to both kids and adults by offering a diverse scope of options, including shopping and swimming. But the animal exhibits really elevate it into the "must see" status. China's largest birdcage (18,000 square meters) and largest tiger sculpture reside here. It also harbors an aquarium that features an entertaining dolphin show.

Lao Tie Mountain Reserve

A paradise of birds. The top of Lao Tie Mountain, which is 466 meters above sea level, affords a fantastic view of the cobalt sea stretching to distant Peng Lai Island, where Chinese emperors once sent expeditions to search for a magic elixir rumored to make anyone who drank it immortal. Dangerously steep cliffs, serene surroundings and luxuriant vegetation make this a paradise for migratory birds. Every winter hundreds of thousand of birds of more than 200 species make a stopover here. They include endangered species like the red crowned crane, black stork and cinereous vulture.

Sun Asia Ocean World

A mystical world of the sea, this favorite attraction gives tourists the chance to roam the bottom of the ocean via an extensive underwater glass tunnel system (the largest in Asia). This amazing experience allows people to get up close and personal with exotic fish, sharks and other sea life. The main display area has approximately 200 species of fish, totaling 10,000 in number. People can also watch divers feeding and interacting with the fish.

Tiger Beach Paradise Underwater World

This aquarium ranks as one of China's largest. Situated at the popular Tiger Beach Park, this wonder center consists of four parts: Sea Animals Exhibition Area, Tropical Fish Area, Large Sea Animals Area, and a show and performance area. Tourists can view penguins, sharks, live coral and numerous other species. The performance pool stages live diving shows and other colorful events, such as the Sea Maiden Show. Visiting this aquarium not only provides fun for the whole family but also enhances knowledge about the ocean and its inhabitants.

Yangxin Crocodile Garden

Located at the southwest corner of Xing Hai Square, this park has more than 400 crocodiles from three continents and includes breeds such as the famed Nile crocodile and the Yangtze Crocodile from Anhui province. The park resembles a tropical rain forest and covers more than 10,000 square meters. You can enjoy live crocodile performances, as well as Thai musical acts. If you are feeling a bit daring, you can taste crocodile meat or purchase crocodile skin products.

Xiangshui Temple

The name "Xiangshui" refers to the temple's famous echoing water. Erected in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), this Taoist temple features a 40 meter long natural cave, from which a fresh spring flows. The water rushes down to the mouth of a green toad from a stone wall, emitting gurgling noises which reverberate in the valley. Chao Yang Temple and Guan Yin Pavilion are not far from Xiangshui Temple. Religious rites are often performed at these sites, which are worth seeing.
