Mission Inn Hotel & Spa - Overview
Occupying an entire city block and encompassing 2 1/2 acres, the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is located in downtown Riverside, California. The Inn began as a two-story adobe guesthouse in 1876. In 1903, Frank Miller began to expand the original facilities, a process that took more than thirty years to complete. The finished project incorporates design elements from throughout the southwestern United States and several Mediterranean countries with a particular influence from the California missions. It incorporates the work of several California architects including Arthur Benton, Myron Hunt and G. Stanley Wilson. The Inn represents a blending of architectural elements, flying buttresses, domes, a bell tower, clock towers, interior courtyards and patios, a six-story open-air rotunda with a circular wrought-iron staircase.
The Inn features 239 guest rooms, including 28 suites, Duanes Prime Steaks and Seafood, the Mission Inn Restaurant and Spanish Patio, Las Campanas Mexican Restaurant, Bella Trattoria Italian Bistro, the Presidential Lounge and the Tuscan-inspired Kelly's Spa. The property also contains more than 15,000 square-feet of indoor meeting/banquet space, 5,000 square-feet of outdoor courtyard space, a classic Californian outdoor swimming pool and two wedding chapels.
The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a State of California Historic Landmark. Filled with more than seven million dollars of antiques and artifacts, the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa offers tours of the property through the Mission Inn Foundation that operates the on-property museum.
Over the years, the Inn has hosted numerous dignitaries including five acting United States Presidents, as well as being the site of Richard and Pat Nixons wedding and Nancy and Ronald Reagans honeymoon.
