Luxe Top Ten Things to do in London

Tower of London

The Tower of London, founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7, holds some of the most remarkable stories from across the centuries. Despite a grim reputation as a place of torture and death, this powerful and enduring fortress has been enjoyed as a royal palace, served as an armory and for a number of years even housed a zoo. To this day, the Tower remains one of the most popular London attractions.

Buckingham Palace

England's most famous royal palace, and the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II, Buckingham Palace opens the doors of its State Rooms to the public every summer. Originally acquired by King George III for his wife Queen Charlotte, Buckingham House was increasingly known as the “Queen's House” and 14 of George III's children were born there.

Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is sure to impress children and adults from around the world. This ornate museum is home to more than 70 million specimens from across the natural world, including insects, fossils and rocks.

British Museum

To thoroughly explore the British Museum, it would take months, if not years. Over seven millions objects from all over the world are housed in this impressive museum of human history and culture (many of the artifacts are stored underneath the museum due to lack of space).

House of Parliament

Now more commonly known as the House of Parliament, the Palace of Westminster began life in 1042 as a royal residence under Edward the Confessor. The major structure to survive various fires, Westminster Hall was built between 1087 and 1100 and is one of the largest medieval halls in Europe with an unsupported hammerbeam roof.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Built by Sir Christopher Wren after the fire, St. Paul's is viewed by many as the spiritual home of Great Britain. The cathedral's famous dome, which peaks over the top of London's skyline from miles around, fills with the soaring sounds of the Cathedral Choir. Its candlelit majestic surroundings in the middle of the city offer the perfect place to usher in Christmas Day.

Tate Modern

Located along the banks of the River Thames in the former Bankside Power Station, Tate Modern was originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1947, the architect of Battersea Power Station. It opened to great acclaim in 2000 and since then, it has welcomed millions of visitors through its imposing doors.

Harrods

Britain's most famous store and possibly the most famous store in the world, Harrods is included on many tourist “must see” lists - and with good reason. Its humble beginnings date back to 1849, when Henry Charles Harrod opened a small grocery shop that emphasized impeccable service over value.

London Aquarium

The London Aquarium features hundreds of varieties of fish and sea life from around the world. Visitors come face-to-face with sharks and can watch divers feeding gigantic conger eels. Seahorses, rays, starfish and piranhas are also on show. The interactive displays include a supervised touch pool, while petting the friendly rays is positively an incredible experience.

Madame Tussauds

In 1835, Marie Tussaud - former sculptor to the court of Louis XVI - established a sideshow of waxworks of famous contemporary and historical figures (not to mention some gruesome relics of the French Revolution). Today, tourists line up along Marylebone Road all summer long to Madame Tussauds to rub shoulders with Kylie, Posh, Becks, and Brad Pitt.
